BEC Communications (a division of Bartlett Electric Cooperative) is proud to announce it is bringing high-speed internet service to its members and the surrounding communities. Randy and Melissa Rafay have been members of Bartlett Electric Cooperative for over 30 years and on January 18, 2021 they became the first members to receive internet services from BEC Communications.  Bryan Lightfoot, General Manager/CEO of Bartlett Electric Cooperative said, “This is truly an exciting time for our members.  Over 85 years ago rural Texans wanted access to the same conveniences afforded to those living in the cities, and electricity was at the top of the list.  Therefore, in 1935 our members demonstrated vision and courage when they started Bartlett Electric Cooperative, the first rural electric cooperative in the nation to provide electricity under the REA program.  Today, lack of access to high-speed internet is a struggle our membership is facing.  But just like in 1935, the members of Bartlett Electric Cooperative have once again taken matters into their own hands.  The launch of BEC Communications will serve to improve the lives of all our members by bringing high-speed internet to rural Texans.”  BEC Communications is currently building a fiber and wireless network in the areas of Bell, Milam, and Williamson counties.
